DECEMBER 2020

 

  • The Reflections on Reading interest group will discuss Lisa Wingate's novel The Book of Lost Friends via Zoom on Wednesday, December 2, at 1pm. 
  • Due to the pandemic, a virtual general meeting will be held this month.  It will be a stay-at-home holiday cocktail party on Saturday, December 5, 5:00-6:30pm via Zoom.  Because we won't be paying for a meal or shopping at our usual silent auction, donations to the AAUW Greatest Needs Fund will be handled by our branch special projects treasurer. 
  • A beautiful holiday quilt - made by one of our talented members - will be raffled at the virtual cocktail party.  Proceeds will go the the Greatest Needs Fund.
  • The branch board will meet via Zoom at 7pm, Thursday, December 10
  • The Chaperone, a Masterpiece Theatre presentation, will be discussed by At the Movies interest group members at 1pm, Monday, December 14

NOVEMBER 2020

 

  • Tuesday, November 3, is Election Day.  Please vote.
  •  The Reflections on Reading interest group will meet virtually at 1pm on Wednesday, November 4 to discuss Sue Monk Kidd's novel The Book of Longings.
  •  The film On the Basis of Sex will be discussed via Zoom by the At the Movies interest group on Monday, November 9, at 1pm.
  • This month's general meeting will be held virtually at 4pm on Wednesday, November 11.  Lead by a docent, it will be a virtual tour o the Illinois Holocaust Museum's exhibition Notorious RBG.  
  •  Veteran's Day is Wednesday, November 11.
  • HAPPY THANKSGIVING on Thursday, November 26.

OCTOBER 2020

  •  The Reflections on Reading interest group will meet virtually at 1pm, Wednesday, October 7Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann will be discussed.
  • The 2019 film The Public will be discussed by the At the Movies interest group at 7pm, Monday, October 12 via Zoom. 
  • WAB's general meeting this month will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, October 14, at 7pm.  Bryan Escobar, Arts & History specialist for the Waukegan Park District, will share his research into libraries in Waukegan.
  • The branch book exchange will take place on Wednesday, October 14, from 9am to 4pm in a member's driveway masked and by appointment only.  Give One, Get One!
  • The branch board will meet virtually at 7pm, Thursday, October 22.
  • The Lake County Women's Coalition is registering voters at Warren-Newport Public Library.

SEPTEMBER 2020


  • GOGO - Give One, Get One - the branch book exchange will take place Wednesday, September 2, on a member's driveway by appointment only...masked and distanced.

  • Reflection on Reading will meet via Zoom at 1pm, Thursday, September 3.  The book to be discussed is The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish.

  • The WAB general meeting will take place at 10am, Saturday, September 12, via Zoom.  Illinois Road Scholar Phil Passen will perform songs about women's suffrage, accompanying himself on a hammered dulcimer.

  • At the Movies will discuss favorite movies watched during the last several months and will touch upon Pavarotti during it's 7pm, Monday, September 14 meeting on Zoom.

  •  The branch board will meet via Zoom at 7pm on Thursday, September 24.

Since our book exchange - GOGO, Give One, Get One - last month was a success, we'll do it again on Wednesday, June 3, 9am-4pm in a member's driveway, masked and at a safe distance.

MAY 2020


Weather permitting, GOGO - Give One, Get One - a book exchange, will be held on a member's driveway on Wednesday, May 6, by appointment only.  Social distancing will be enforced.

The WAB May general meeting will be held via Zoom at 7pm, Tuesday, May 12.  Election of branch officers will be held.  The branch president will send the ID and passcode to branch members.

The branch board meeting will be held at 7pm, Thursday, May 28 virtually.

In-person interest group meetings have been canceled for this month.
Any virtual meetings will be announced to members by group leaders.

Virtual Birthday

 
As a long-time member turned 92 in April,
branch members joined in a virtual birthday party
by holding an auto parade.
The birthday "girl" was surprised
and delighted!
 
Even in these unusual times,
we can show that we care.

WAB Helps Fight the Virus


Several members of the AAUW Waukegan Area Branch are sewing masks to help in the fight against Covid-19.


The masks are being donated to bus drivers in a local school district who are delivering meals. 
They are also being donated to staff at the local veterans' hospital.

Brava!

We can all do something to help in these unusual times.
