This $500 STEM scholarship is offered to girls who are seniors in specific Lake County, Illinois, public high schools, who will be attending any not-for-profit community college or four-year college (public or private) within the U.S.A., maintaining a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester, beginning fall 2014, and will be majoring in the sciences, technology, engineering, or math. It is the goal that at least one, possibly two STEM scholarships will be awarded for the 2014-2015 academic year to a girl(s) meeting the established requirements.

Submission of this Application indicates applicant’s permission to disclose and discuss the contents of the Application and its requirements with her high school counselor and teachers, and admissions & financial aid personnel of her chosen college.
 
STEM SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a not-for-profit organization under 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.
AAUW provides educational funding for girls interested in science, technology, engineering, and math via the STEM scholarship. The Waukegan Area Branch of AAUW is offering one, possibly two STEM scholarships, each in the amount of $500 for the 2014-2015 academic year.
 
OFFICIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Female student, U.S. citizen, scheduled to graduate from high school in spring 2014 from one of the following Lake County, Illinois, high schools, to wit:
 

Antioch High School, Dist 117; Grayslake North High School, Dist 127; Lakes Community High School, Dist 117;  Libertyville High School, Dist 128; Mundelein High School, Dist 120; North Chicago High School, Dist 187; Vernon Hills High School, Dist 128; Warren Township High School, Dist 121; Waukegan High School, Dist 60; and Zion-Benton Township High School, Dist 126.

1. Accepted to a public or private, not-for-profit community college or four-year college within the U.S.A., full-time, i.e., maintaining a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester, for the 2014-2015 academic year.

2. Majoring in science, technology, engineering, or math. These areas include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
Accounting/CPA • Engineering • Medical Technician/Imagining

Anthropology • Geography • Nanoscience

Architecture • Geology • Nursing or EMT

Biology • Horticulture • Pre-Med/Pre-Dental

Chemistry • Math • Physical/Occupational Therapist

Computer Programming/Sciences • Physics

Construction Management • Zoology

3. A typed personal statement, no longer than two pages, about yourself, your goals, and what future contributions you intend to make to your community, dated within 30 days of application submission, and with your original signature.

4. An OFFICIAL high school transcript that includes class rank and accumulated GPA for the most recently completed semester, i.e., a seven-semester transcript.

5. At least one written teacher recommendation on your behalf, dated within 30 days of application submission, and with that teacher's original signature.

6. Completion and timely submission of the Waukegan Branch AAUW SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION (which will be provided upon emailing a request directed to ZARI at wabaauw@gmail.com.  Also, the guidance counselors at the above-listed high schools have been provided copies of the applications.)  There is NO fee to apply.

 7. Mail the completed application with all requirements to: Zari A. Kalo, 2345 North McAree Road, Waukegan, IL 60087-3668. If questions arise, please either submit them via email or call ZARI at 618-614-2998.

8. DEADLINE – ALL APPLICATIONS WITH ATTACHED REQUIREMENTS MUST BE POSTMARKED NOT LATER THAN APRIL 11, 2014.

We do not sell, give away, or share ANY information submitted, as we consider all student information confidential.
Submission of a completed application is taken as an authorization to discuss and share information with the student’s high school college counselor, with the teacher who submitted the letter of recommendation, and with financial aid and admissions personnel of the applied-for college. NO ONE submitting email to us at wabaauw@gmail.com will be automatically enrolled to receive any type of further email, including solicitations. If requested, persons sending email to wabaauw@gmail.com may, at any time, opt out of receiving
any further email from WAUKEGAN AREA BRANCH AAUW.
